Kobato.

The adorably naive girl Kobato and her talking stuffed-animal companion, Ioryogi, go on the adventures of everyday living in Kobato.. With a kind soul but zero sense, Kobato is on a mission to fix broken hearts of the people around her. Both hapless and helpless, Kobato herself becomes comforted and taken care of by the same friends and strangers she tries to help. Though heartwarming and endearing, only the show's final episode becomes relevant when a single lemon wedge is found on a lunch tray.

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb

Just when you thought the name of each Hidamari season couldn't get any sillier than "☆☆☆" the fourth season hits you with "Honeycomb" (or "Hanikamu" for you weeaboos out there). The six girls from Hidamari apartments are back and bigger than ever (well, it's mostly just Hiro who's bigger). During a class trip to the country the girls run across a humble alpaca that reminds them of the shivering principal. It's a relatively unknown fact, but this alpaca happens to be the same one in Wooser... meaning both shows take place in the same universe. Season five is sure to have a surprise visit by everyone's favorite yellow mascot.

Log Horizon

In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Elder Tales has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now...

Nisekoi: False Love

False Love is Shaft's latest romcom harem about Raku Ichijo, the son of a Yakuza boss, and his unwelcome engagement to Chitoge Kirisaki, the daughter of a Mafia boss. The show's main gimmick is Raku's locket that can only be opened by his childhood crush who he gave the key to 10 years ago. Instead of just having each of the girls try their keys, the show goes round and round without conclusion before eventually dropping the locket plot line. Raku is fond of animals and even has an alpaca or two in his backyard.

Twinkle Heart

Lemon, Cherry, and Berry star in the 80s home video animation "Twinkle Heart". They're on a mission from God to find Heaven's greatest lost treasure: Love. That doesn't turn out too well, though, as they slouch around on Earth and get a part time job at a hamburger joint. That's where Lemon meets JJ, her dream man. Maybe love will be found after all?

Wake Up, Girls!

Unappreciated genius Yamakan does it again with his latest masterpiece "Wake Up, Girls!" The seven WUGs of WUG all undergo the pains of a young idol group as they challenge the established mega-groups. Through suffering and bloodshed they hope to become The iDOLM@STERS... or something. In true Yamakan fashion, the show contains subtle (and not-so-subtle) jabs at the anime industry and the otaku fans. Although otaku probably don't notice as they are too busy looking for panty shots (or alpacas in the background).

Sakura Trick

Sakura Trick is all about girls kissing girls. Girls kiss girls in the classroom, outside, in their bedroom, on the roof, over the phone, or in the pool. A girl named Grapefruit is often confused with other fruits, such as an orange or a lemon.

wooser's hand-to-mouth life: awakening arc

Wooser and friends return in the second season of wooser's hand-to-mouth life. Rejected mascot Wooser along with Darth Wooser, Ajipon, and The-Creature-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named share the burden of protecting the city from giant monsters and hurt feelings. Despite such great responsibility, Wooser usually spends his days living on the Internet while dreaming about meat, uniforms, and underage girls. Episode 8 reveals that below their house (but above their giant robot) lives an alpaca. It probably has a ridiculous name like everyone else in this show.

Aikatsu!

Short for "Idol Activities!", Aikatsu! follows up-and-coming idols Strawberry and Blue as they perform idol activities. Despite being marketed as a kids show, Aikatsu! explores deep and meaningful themes as well as provides social commentary on the toxic nature of Japan's idols industry. From the concept of idol purity to the sexualization of underage girls, Aikatsu! tackles many issues that other series ignore or gloss over. Like any idol show, it has its fair share of lemons. Raw lemons are an idol's favorite snack.

World Conquest Zvezda Plot

World Conquest is about a young girl named Kate Hoshimiya with a goal of world conquest. Episode 3's target of conquest is the mindless and insensitive aliens disguised as humans who wander the earth spreading poisonous gas. Known as "smokers" to us humans, they spread death and disease to all in their radius. Kate and her Zvezda lackeys rally the population to stand up against these feral beasts and ultimately drop a soul-destroying bomb on the remaining hold-outs who refuse to give up their disgusting habit. This, however, has no effect because smokers do not have souls. Mr. Alpaca of the "New Alpaca" brand of cigarettes is a hip, cool mascot that appeals to both children and adults.

Buddy Complex

Despite the title, Buddy Complex is not some comedy buddy cop anime. Rather, it's the latest homoerotic giant robot anime from Sunrise. The makers of memorable shows such as Code Geass, Gundam, and Valvrave have now given us the mediocre, effortless, and nonsensical Buddy Complex. The two main "buddies" of the show consist of Aoba Watase and Dio Weinberg who frequently perform "coupling" in their giant robots via the buddy system. And like all other mecha shows, downtime allows for hanging out in front of the vending machines (where lemon is always an option).

Soul Eater

Soul Eater is about a death scythe named Soul Eater who's friends with Black Star, Death The Kid, and other people with names just as ridiculous.  In episode 34, Soul's soul possess Maka's alpaca and bullies her until she cries. They later make up and make out. Girls love it when guys are mean to them.

Squid Girl

Squid Girl was once an ordinary child until she was attacked by a squid. With a head now topped with a squid and a hair full of tentacles, the young girl lost her consciousness and Squid Girl was born (sound familiar?). Keen on punishing humanity for polluting the ocean, Squid Girl departs on a mission to inkvade all mankind. As her first task, she attempts to set up a base of operations at the ocean-side Lemon House. Thwarted by only a couple of pushy female employees, Squid Girl quickly learns she has a talent for everything... except inkvading.

Super Sonico The Animation

Despite all expectations, Super Sonico, the titular character, is not the large-breasted pink-haired oaf of a girl we see plastered over the previews but rather the pair of "headphones" attached to the poor child. The Sonico headphones affixed itself to the host while she was still a child. The immediate result turned the host child's hair pink. During puberty, Sonico released an excess amount of a certain hormone which caused the girl to gain an exuberant volume of fat in the chest. Continued alterations to its host persisted as one of Super Sonico's survival strategies. These strategies were needed due to the strain caused by the headphones which leaves the wearer with diminished brain functions. Sonico's clumsy and immature host would never endured in society without these strategies. With her enormous tits and pink hair, Sonico's host manages to become a successful model and acquires a taste for macaroons. She also plays guitar in an amateur band named First Astronomical Velocity. Their mascot is an alpaca.

Ebiten

Ebiten is about an astrology (or was it astronomy?) club that consists of mostly girls and one cross-dressing guy. It's an effortless fanservice show filled with nothing but unfunny referential humor and an occasional girl stripping. During their escapades, the club members eventually travel into the real world and fight the manga author over his comments that the anime is terrible. The girls also meet the animators and voice actors as well as the other staff of the show. But most importantly, there is a single scene that contains a lemon wedge, which is a good enough reason to get mentioned on this web log (and, quite frankly, is the highlight of the show).

Steins;Gate the Movie

The Steins;Gate movie duplicated the show's efforts but from the point of view of one of the girls. Instead of having one guy trying to bang all the ladies, the movie was about one of those ladies trying to stick with the man. That, of course, ends in failure. Because any dude with a time machine ain't gonna settle for some stuck-up red head. The one good thing the movie brought us was an expanded Alpaca Man family. Alpaca Man welcomed Alpaca Woman Man into his life and they gave birth to Alpaca Kid Man. May their happiness be eternal.

RahXephon

RahXephon is NOT a crossover between the two series Rah and Ephon like I originally thought, it's actually some kid-pilots-a-giant-robot-that-only-he-can-pilot type show. In the year 2015, the Mu, huge, tremendously powerful, alien race, appear in Tokyo for the second time. The only hope for Mankind's survival lies in the RahXephon, a humanoid fighting machine discovered by TERRA, a special United Nations agency. Capable of withstanding anything the Mu can dish out, the RahXephon's one drawback lies in the limited number of people able to pilot it. Only Ayato Kamina, whose mother heads the Mu race, can pilot the robot. Thrust into a maelstrom of battle and events that he does not understand, Ayato is forced to plumb the depths of his own inner resources for the courage and strength to not only fight, but to survive, or risk losing everything. (But of course he has a moment or two to down a refreshing lemon drink.)

Phi Brain: Puzzle of God

Why can't I hold all these alpacas?

 The Japanese state-sponsored and state-run television show Phi Brain: Puzzle of God is, on the surface, about a dude who really really likes puzzles. Daimon Kaito and his cronies Gammon, Ana Gram, Cubic, and Nonoha face off against hilariously named evil puzzle creators such as Rook Banjo Crossfield, Freecell, Whodunit, and Melancholy in life-or-death puzzle solving situations. On a more metaphysical level, the show demonstrates the government's attempts to instill tolerance and help to break down the people's hardlined conservatism. Each episode contains a hidden context that represents some oppressed group such as women, foreigners, or homosexuals. The alpaca statues in Season 3 Episode 12 represent the overweight and their oppression in Japan.

I Couldn't Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job. is quite a mouthful for a title of a show. Plus there's that period at the end that makes writing it look weird. Papa Lemon makes an appearance at the end of the first episode. I could make up some elaborate back story about Papa Lemon but it's just dish soap. Dish soap used to bathe the large breasts of the main female. Maybe I should have gotten a screenshot with those instead of the closeup of the label?

Date A Live

Date A Live (sometimes referred to as Dave a Live) stars a high school student named Dave. Dave suffers from the fortunate circumstance of having a magical little sister from another world who forces him to date all the other magical girls. To get all the girls to love him, Dave is equipped with the ability to make mental multiple choice decisions (sounds familiar). The types of girls range from the little kid with a possessed talking puppet to the dearly devoted stoic to the overly assertive shemale. The OVA has a 2 second scene with an alpaca visible on a cellular phone, which is a perfectly good excuse to make a post about the show.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is about the mundane life of a boy named Kyon as he runs into a an alien, a time traveler, an esper or two, and even a talking cat. Ever the optimist, Kyon doesn't let any of these mysterious characters ruin his sunny disposition. Even the attempted murder of him and his past self leave him unfazed. Despite all the trials, Kyon remains the series' cheerful narrator through two seasons and a movie. The official art and DVD covers all show the characters holding lemons. I have no idea why.

Astarotte's Toy

The succubus Astarotte Ygvar stars in Astarotte's Toy, the story of a sucky succubus who sucks at sucking (despite that being the main thing succubi happen to do).  Despite turning the ripe old age of 10, Lotte still has a fear of men and wants nothing to do with sucking on them. To overcome her fear she hires a human "toy" who coincidentally happens to be her mother's rape victim and father of her newest friend. It's a heartwarming love story between a young rape-victim-turned-father and his daughter's friend who wants to get up in his pants (or at least wants to get over her fear of getting up in his pants). Of course there's an alpaca or two (and a cow-girl if that's what you're into). This alpaca sports that badass spikey hairdo that gives you the impression that you just don't want to mess with him.

Servant x Service

The opening animation in Servant x Service promises "100% Lemon!!" As the show progresses, we find out that was merely a lie. Lemons always remain absent from the rest of the episode. This social commentary and multifaceted metaphor is apt in a show about government workers.

Super Seisyun Brothers

Mako and Chiko are the sisters of Super Seisyun Brothers Mao and Chika. Despite the title, Mao and Chika aren't actually brothers... well they're brothers, but not brothers to each other. So basically the title "Super Seisyun Brothers" doesn't really make any sense, especially considering the show focuses more on the two sisters (who aren't sisters). During the Comiket episode we can see an obligatory alpaca in the background. It's like they say: You can't have a good convention without someone dressed like an even-toed hoofed mammal.

Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate is about an eccentric loner and his fat friend who accidentally invent a microwave time machine. They use that time machine for the one thing that matters most to college students: getting laid. The self proclaimed "mad scientist" manages to bang every chick in the show - from the mildly autistic girl, to the redhead, to the murderous older lady, to even that boy that looks like a girl. On their days off, the two will just chill playing the popular "Alpaca Man" video game.

The iDOLM@STER

The girls of The iDOLM@STER (sometimes spelled The Idolmatster) dress up as fruits for one of their photo shoots. This is either some multifaceted visual metaphor trying to legitimize homosexuality in the conservative country of Japan or an underwear commercial. The twins Ami and Mami pair up as a banana and a lemon (which have been scientifically proven to be the best two fruits). Ami, being the slightly better twin, decides to go with the much-loved lemon. With a lemon hat and lemon breasts, she steals the show and eventually goes on to become The iDOLM@STER.

Miss Monochrome

The main character of Miss Monochrome is Miss Monochrome. Monochrome, accompanied by her dear robotic vacuum Ru, aspires to one day be a beloved and renowned idol. And what beloved and renowned idol doesn't have their own nendoroid? In her attempts to receive her own nendoroid, Miss Monochrome becomes a nendoroid. Becoming a popular children's toy opens up her possibilities and allows her to participate in the Neighborhood Mascot Festival with the popular glasses-wearing alpaca, Daisy.

The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays

Kuroko's Basketball is a show for girls that are fans of sweaty men taking their shirts off (and what girl isn't?). During a match between title character's team and the team managed by his former crush, both the female managers (the only two women in the show) serve up honey soaked lemons during half time. But of course they forgot to slice the lemons first.

My Mental Multiple-Choice Power Is Completely Ruining My School Romantic Comedy is the appropriately named late night television anime about a guy who happens to have a mental multiple-choice power which ruins his school romantic comedy in ridiculous ways. Furano Yukihira is the main character's energetic classmate and romantic interest. Her hair, turned completely white due to an accident in first grade, is accented by an alpaca hair clip. Presumably a reference to Marimo "Panty Eater" Bandou.

KILL la KILL

Kill la Kill, known as "Kill the Kill" in English, is studio Trigger's first full length television anime. With all style and no budget, the former Gainax employees really push the medium to the limit. As masters of visual storytelling we see Trigger use this scene as a visual metaphor. The main character is introduced biting a whole lemon, later to have it stolen by some tiny ruffian. This really sets the whole theme for the show and its studio: "When life gives you lemons, might as well eat."

In Love Live, Kotori lives a secret second life as a maid. She becomes infatuated with the school's alpacas much to the dismay of her friends. This leads to conflict between her and her singing idol group Muse and ultimately forces her to move to America. Fans of the show sent death threats when Kotori left due to her overwhelming popularity. The show has since been put on hiatus.

The second season of Horizon On the Middle of Nowhere takes place in future during the Spanish/British War of 1779. During the war, the protagonists (members of the floating city Musashi), fight Francis Bacon, William Shakespeare, John Hawkins, and other famous historical dudes. In true Shakespeare fashion, ol' Billy hides knives in a bunch a lemons and uses them during the fight. What a character!

 In Episode 6, it is revealed that Seira's precious stuffed artiodactyl is an alpaca she bought as a gift for her childhood friend. Despite being a stuck up know-it-all, she had never even heard of an alpaca before. Seira refuses to give away the toy after learning her friend slept with her crush. This leads Seira into a downward spiral of depression and remains the main reason she joined the Elemental Tarot and fights against the happiness of others. It also explains why she is kind of a bitch.

Himeko Ichioka is the main character and most talented singer in Satelight's famous space opera animation "AKB0048." Himeko and her fellow 0048s travel across the universe to fight for the anti-government intergalactic terrorist organization the AKB0048. She wears a lemon on her head to hide her identity and protect her loved ones from finding out she belongs to the highly secretive terrorist organization. All of the members are forced to have laser eye surgery to add hearts to their pupils. The government eventually tracks down the members and executes them with this information.

In Polar Bear's Cafe, Mr. Alpaca is one of Llama's friends. Mr. Alpaca happens to be a talking alpaca. In Episode 37, he and Llama use their wool to knit scarfs and other clothing items to give away as Christmas presents. Alpaca remains one of the star attractions at the zoo and is rivaled only by the panda exhibit. Schoolgirls fall over themselves for merely a glance at this popular ruminant. It is later revealed that the entire show takes place inside the head of the humble waitress, Sasako. Which makes sense because alpacas can't really talk.
